Our stereo receiver is a 2.1 with an impossible to disable 100hz HPF for the two stereo speakers, despite the fact I have really nice full-range speakers (I’m using this receiver because it was free and has TOSlink), so I needed something to do bass. I plugged the RCA lead into an old slightly broken Sony 50w reciever and hooked up a Klipsch speaker that had giant woofers. All was well ‘till the Sony crapped out, and this disaster is my “fix”. I replaced the Sony with a shitty chinese car amp hooked up to all of the 12v outputs of a computer power supply with shorted power leads. It takes four or five tries to get the broken-ass PSU to fire up, but it works great as long as I don’t crank too loud.

I’m not even mad, that level of engineering and craftsmanship is impressive.

The “twisted wires and fifteen minutes with a wirestripper” level? I like to call it “potential house fire”

We have an 2-plug outlet in our rec room with one of those 6-plug adapters in it, with a surge protector powerbar plugged into one (with a set-top box, TV, 2 laptop chargers, and an an N64 plugged into said powerbar), and each of the remaining 5 plugs filled with a computer monitor, my space desktop computer, a lamp, my “test” power cable for my computer repair workstation and some ambient LED lights....and the powerbar also has a second powerbar plugged into it with a music keyboard, another laptop charger and a printer. :P

Mind you, not all of these things are ever turned on at once....I like to think I have reached a similar level of “potential house fire”!

I once had a person claim that the very act of plugging in one power strip to another power strip (with only one load plugged in) would cause a house fire.

Can disprove that claim.

My computer (and all of its accessories) use two whole power strips. one is plugged into another...

been like this for.. I dunno, 5 years?

That's really awesome. Never thought about using a PSU to power car audio in the home. I might do this at some point in a slightly less ghetto fashion since home audio equipment is way more expensive than car audio equipment.

Yes, but very low amperage.
